Petra initially trained as a Sports Massage Therapist, qualifying in 2002 with a diploma in Anatomy & Physiology and certificate in Sports Massage Therapy.  She immediately started work as Massage Therapist in the Living Well Health Club, Hilton Hotel, Belfast.  After 6 months she began work in several large American-owned IT companies treating back, neck and shoulder problems to relieve stress, pain & discomfort.

In early 2004 Petra joined Apex Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic. While working there, she completed post-graduate training in Advanced Deep Tissue and Injury Prevention Techniques and Myofascial Release working with the general public, local football teams and athletes for post injury and post surgical problems stimulated her interest in how massage could benefit scars and scar tissue in general. 

Therefore in February 2006, Petra travelled to Toronto, Canada to study part 1 of Dr Bruno Chikly's Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT) through the Upledger Institute, then on to Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA to study Postoperative Scar Massage in the Centre for Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (CPRS).  In October 2006 she returned to Michigan to study part 2 of the Lymph Drainage Therapy qualification and to do another week of in-service training in CPRS.  These qualifications and training have given Petra the specialised skills to treat both acute and chronic problematic adhesions and scar tissue. 

In August 2007 Petra joined PhysioWorks NI in Gilnahirk, Belfast and her desire to further increase her knowledge of the lymphatic system and to be able to treat lymphoedema in post cancer patients has resulted in her studying and receiving certification in the Vodder technique of Manual Lymph Drainage and the Foldi method of Complete Decongestive Therapy (MLD/CDT) with Klose Training.  She is now fully qualified to treat lymphoedema.

Most recently Petra established medi-therapy and opened her own clinic in Killinchy, Co. Down.  medi-therapy provides the specialised treatments mentioned on this website to as wide an audience as possible by offering rapid access to treatment.  Apart from the main clinic in Killinchy there are two other treatment centres in Belfast and Ballymena.  Treatment may also available in the patient's own home.

Petra is a registered member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT), British Lymphology Society and MLD UK.
